About Us

Tony Hancock and Thomas Collins, both certified law enforcement officers, founded C.O.P.S Driving Academy to use their expertise and knowledge to help young drivers learn skills that will prevent collisions and keep them safe. After full careers in law enforcement, educating new drivers was a natural progression.

We have two of the nine South Carolina Law Enforcement Master Instructors teaching teens the rules of the road. Our educators are professionals with many years of law enforcement and highway safety experience, not people with other jobs who teach driver education on the side. Just take a look at our credentials.

Tony Hancock

A retired South Carolina Highway Patrol captain, Tony has 33 years of experience in highway safety. During his tenure, he served for five years as safety liaison for the South Carolina Department of Education, conducting safety classes and training for school bus drivers and students.

Tony has been certified as an instructor by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. He has developed strategic collision reduction plans and programs to educate young drivers on the dangers of operating vehicles. Now he transfers this knowledge and experience from his career to the classroom.

Thomas Collins

As a Certified Master Instructor (M.I.) with the state of South Carolina, Thomas has specialized skills in curriculum development and dealing with all aspects of classroom instruction. He has 22 years of law enforcement experience with an emphasis on highway safety and training.

He currently researches highway collision data and enforcement, training and education plans to ensure safe motoring for the public. Students get the benefit of all this information and are empowered with the knowledge of how to be safe drivers.

Every member of the C.O.P.S. Driving Academy staff is either a retired or current certified senior law enforcement professional. Our instructors' specialized experience in training, communications and highway safety gives your teen advantages other schools can't match.
